Margaret Cohen Obituary

Haverhill - Haverhill - Margaret (Lagasse) Cohen died peacefully on September 1 after suffering from dementia for several years.

A longtime resident of Groveland, she lived the last years of her life at the Wingate Residences in Haverhill. Margaret majored in math at Emmanuel College, graduating in 1955, and was a math teacher at several local schools, including Haverhill High School, St. Joseph's School, and Timberlane Middle School, from which she retired. She was an avid gardener who loved daylilies and was a longtime member of the Groveland Garden Club. She attended St. Patrick's Church in Groveland. She is survived by her sons Peter (husband Jeff) and Daniel; her brother, Paul Lagasse; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and former colleagues. She was predeceased by her husband of almost 60 years, Simon Cohen, who died in January 2025, and by her sister, Patricia Pelosi. The family is grateful to Wingate staff, Beacon Hospice, and to Peggy Connolly, who assisted them for many years.

An interfaith celebration of life for both Simon and Margaret Cohen will be held on Friday, September 26, at 10 a.m. at Kevin B. Comeau Funeral Home, 486 Main St., Haverhill. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Emmanuel College Math Department, Office of Advancement, 400 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115.
