Bowie, MD - Lorraine Marcia Caverly Still went to live with her Savior on Sunday, July 28 2019, after living for 105 years and 4 months.
She was born on March 28, 1914 to Ethel and Francis Garnet Caverly in Framingham, Mass. After a few years in Northwood, N.H. she moved to Haverhill, Mass. where her mother was a teacher in the public schools. She married Carroll Wilder Still in 1937, moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut, and they started their family with Carol Ann and then Sally Marcia.
Mrs. Still was in the Haverhill public school system for 23 years, first as a first - fourth grade teacher for many years and later conceptualizing and implementing the perceptual language disabilities program for the city schools. She became the department chairman of that program for grades K-12 with a staff of 22 teachers, tutors and aides. She was responsible for their supervision and training in addition to testing, diagnosing and planning remedial strategies for the students. In that capacity she worked with principals, classroom teachers and parents as well as state and national
Associations for Children with Learning Disabilities.
Lorraine was a member of the First Baptist Church in Haverhill Massachusetts for over 40 years and for many of those years she was the director of the high school Sunday School program of over 100 students. She has been a member of Conerstone Assembly in Bowie, Md. for the last 24 years.
In the early 1990s she and a friend decided to move to Waxhaw, North Carolina, headquarters for the Wycliffe Bible Translators JAARS (Jungle aviators) program. During that time she served the Lord as head of housekeeping for missionary housing as they returned from the mission field and trained as jungle aviator pilots.
Lorraine's Celebration of Life service will be held at Cornerstone Assembly of God Church on August 17 at 2 p.m. at 16010 Annapolis Rd, Bowie, Md. under the direction of the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Craine Hwy, Bowie Md. 20715.
Interment will take place September 14, at 11 a.m. at the East Northwood Cemetery in Northwood N.H. under the direction of the Wiggins, Purdy Funeral Home in Dover.
