JACKSONVILLE, FL: William Sumner Hughes, Jr., died Sunday morning, Oct. 4, 2015, in Jacksonville, Fla. He was born April 15, 1922, in Seabrook, N.H., the son of William S. and Lucretia M (Fowler) Hughes. He grew up in Newburyport, Mass., and was educated in the Newburyport schools and earned his Electrical Engineering degree from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago.
For over 32 years, he worked for United Airlines as an Avionics Engineer.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Eleanor Hughes of Jacksonville; children, Martha Hughes of San Francisco, Charles Hughes of Unionville, Va., Donna Minogue of Windham, N.H., Elizabeth Spade of Phoenix, Ariz., Marion Sanville of Midlothian, Va.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Relatives and Friends are invited to a memorial service at Cypress Village Egret Hall, Jacksonville, FL, at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 9. His graveside service will be April 15, 2016, at the Belleville Cemetery in Newburyport, Mass. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill and Bradford.
