LEWISTON, ME: Russell Patten Burbank, born June 6, 1931, in Detroit, Mich., passed away July 7, 2015. He was the son of John C. and Mildred Kitchen Burbank. He attended URI and graduated from Harvard University Extension School. He is survived by his wife, Carol Mae Washburn of Lewiston, Maine.
He married Barbara Congdon (deceased in 1982). He is survived by his four sons, John and wife, Heidi of York, Maine, and their daughters, Erin and Morgan; David and Beth of Manchester, N.H., and their sons, Ian and Quinn; Thomas and Elizabeth of Madbury, N.H., and their children, Becky and husband, Scott Martin, and great-grandchild, Hugo, and son, Jake and his wife, Sally; and Steven from Boston, Mass., now living in Sunapee, N.H.; daughter, Jean and husband, Bruce Desmarais of Atkinson, N.H., and their children, Danielle and Alex.
He was a reporter/editor for the Haverhill Gazette (1953 to 1965), Boston Globe (1965 to 1967), and Mass Teacher Magazine (1967 to 1981). He also worked for the Mass. Dept. of Education in Public Relations. Russ won numerous awards for his work. He enjoyed reading, writing and traveling. He and Carol traveled to 49 states and 35 countries. Russ lived in Lewiston, Maine, for the last 12 years.
Memorial service to be held on Saturday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at Court Street Baptist Church, 129 Court Street, Auburn, ME. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Habitat for Humanity International, 121 Habitat Street, Americus, GA 31709-3498 in memory of Russell Burbank.
