KENNEBUNK, ME: Phylis Elizabeth LaPointe, 96, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2015 at Charles Dean long-term care unit surrounded by her loving family. Phylis was born on May 17, 1918, in Haverhill, to Henry and Charlotte Chase. She was predeceased in death by her husband, Donald E. LaPointe; daughters-in-law, Diane A. Lapointe and Linda LaPointe; great-grandson, Justin Donovan.
Phylis graduated from Haverhill High School. She married soon after and began raising her family in Groveland. She worked for a short period for the IRS in Andover. In 1976, Phyllis and her husband, Donald, moved to Kennebunk, Maine to be closer to her children and grandchildren.
Phylis pursued so many interests throughout her life, spending her spare time painting, knitting, sewing, and baking. No one could resist one of her famous sugar cookies. Phylis’ handmade cards, decorated with painted scenes she observed outside her window were much loved by those who received them. She was a devoted Red Sox fan, hardly ever missing a game. Phylis was dedicated to her family. She enjoyed walks on the beach, family dinners, and playing cards with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As an avid reader, she was always sharing books, especially mysteries, with family. Phylis will be most remembered by her family for her loving spirit and kindness, her smile and her laughter. She will be sadly missed.
Phylis is survived by her three children, Donald LaPointe Jr. and his companion, Linda Lachapelle of Greenville, Maine, David LaPointe and his wife, Linda of Washington, Utah, and Michele Chase and her spouse, Jill Carter of Beaver Cove, Maine; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
