PLAISTOW: Mr. Joseph W. Kenny, of Plaistow N.H., born July 12, 1929, died July 5, 2015, in Haverhill after years of gracefully living with cancer.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late patrolman, George E. Kenny Sr. and Mary E. (Ward) Kenny. As a child, he lived in a log cabin on Sluice Pond. He graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1947.
At 16, Joseph became an apprentice in the US Navy Reserve and later served in the Air Force as an aircraft technician. Returning from military service in Alaska, he started his family in Lynn and then lived in Salem for more than 20 years, before moving to spend his last 30 years in Plaistow, N.H. He worked as a manager at the General Electric River Works until retirement. At GE, he received appreciation from the secretary of the Navy during a completion ceremony for a new aircraft engine. After his retirement, Joe found community at the Sacred Hearts Church in Bradford and was a volunteer for the food pantry.
Joe loved the outdoors and summer vacations in the White Mountains along the Swift River, Glen Ellis, and in North Conway. He was also fond of escaping the snow and traveling to Florida, spending winter in a mobile home. He was an avid Red Sox fan, enjoyed visiting casinos, and loved attending all the events of his younger family members. Joe had a big heart and enjoyed connecting with people. You never knew what joke he was playing behind his smile.
He is survived by his six children, Kathleen and her husband, William L’abbe of Beverly, Lorri Clark mostly of Anchorage, Alaska, David and his wife, Valeria of Danvers, Marianne (Mae) and her husband, Donald Berube of Berlin, Mass., J. Barr and his wife, Melissa of Natick, Mike and his partner, Grethe of Snekkersten, Denmark. He is also survived by his wife, Pat with whom he shared 27 years of marriage and Marion Kenny, the mother of his children.
His stepdaughters are Karen and her husband, Jack Blaney of Amesbury, and Debbie and her husband, Lenny Lombardi of Groveland. Joe leaves 11 grandchildren, Christina, Sandra, Ace, Mikayla, Colin, Erin, Murphy, Max, Bria, Ashley, and Ryan. He also leaves six great-grandchildren, Mariana , Adeline, Liam, Rowyn, Siena, and Porter; as well as cousins and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his older brother, George E. Kenny Jr., younger sister, Eleanor Trott, and his younger, brother David M. Kenny.
