SANDOWN, NH: John "Jerry" G. Coakley, 77, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 29, 2015 at South Bay Hospital, Sun City, Fla. He was born October 19, 1937 in Woburn, son of the late Roy and Helen (Bouvaird) Coakley.
Jerry and his late wife Peggy resided in Sandown for over 25 years. Jerry was a member of the Sandown Volunteer Fire Department. They relocated to Ft. Myers, FL in 1991, eventually retiring in Ft. Lonesome, Fla., spending summers in Berwick, Maine for the past 20 years. He was a long haul truck driver who had over five million documented accident free miles and often referred to himself as a “Roadologist." He also owned and operated several small businesses through the years. Jerry and Peggy enjoyed traveling the country together for over 20 years in both their 18 wheeler and RV.
Jerry was a proud father and even prouder grandfather and had such a unique relationship with each one, many of whom referred to him as their best friend.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Peggy, on May 4, 2011, with whom he had just celebrated 50 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Diane (Dee) Sandner and fiance, Randy Lariviere of Haverhill, Colleen and Greg Yergens, Shawn and Martha Coakley, Alicia Coakley and Donald Ciarelli, all of Ft. Myers; his grandchildren, Rosemarie (Sandner) Griffin, Kyle Sandner, Allison, Tanner and Tyler Yergens and triplets Aidan, Kaitlyn and Nicholas Coakley, several nieces, nephews and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Elaine M. Lloyd.
His funeral was held in Ft. Myers, Fla. A memorial celebration of his life will be held on July 11, 2015 at 1 p.m. at Ace Acres Clubhouse, 172 Ridlon Rd, Berwick, Maine. Friends may sign the guest book at www.horizonfunerals.com.
