Hector William's Story
Hector W. Pelley Jr., 74, died October 4, 2016 on his vessel in Stuart, Fla. of natural causes.
He was born January 16, 1942 to Hector William Pelley Sr and Genevieve Perkins Pelley in Newton, N.H. and was the stepson of the late Henry D. Lay. He served in the Navy from 1963-1967 and he was an Able Seaman in U.S. Merchant Maritime from 1967-1973. He was a volunteer coach for Pentucket High School football team in 1973. He spent the final years of his life fulfilling his dream of living aboard his vessel in the Bahamas.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonney A. Pelley and husband, Patrick O'Brien of Portland, Ore. and Molly J. Gillard and husband Matt of Amesbury, Ma. He is survived by three grandchildren, Rowan O'Brien, Calvin O'Brien, Oliver Gillard and a new grand baby expected in 2017.
He is also survived by his siblings, H. Douglas Lay Jr. and wife, Debra, Marcia W. Conti and husband, Rene, Wendy G. Conn and husband, Doug, Albert W. Lay and wife, Nancy Wilkinson, Gerald F. Lay and wife, Holly, and George A. Lay and several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts.
A celebration of his life will be held by family and friends in in Massachusetts in July 2017.
