Ellen L. (Sullivan) Thornton, 77, of Lynn and formerly of Georgetown, passed away Friday, April 1, at the Devereaux House in Marblehead.
She was born in Revere on March 20, 1939, daughter of the late Martin and Amanda (Moran) Sullivan.
Ellen was educated in Revere and after raising her family was employed at the Soldiers Home in Chelsea from 10 years. After her retirement she moved to Georgetown for 17 years where she was a crossing guard for several years.
Ellen was the wife of the late Joseph Thornton who died in 1990 and is survived by her sons, Joseph Thornton of Lynn and Eric Thornton and his wife, Michelle of Puyallup, Wash.; sisters, Carol Mendez of Georgetown, Florence Twomey of Norwood and Edna McAuley of Malden; three grandchildren, Jacob, Jennifer and Robert Thornton; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her calling hours were held on Tuesday, April 5, from 4 to 6:45 p.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St. (Route 125), Bradford with a funeral service following at 7 p.m. Interment will be private in the Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
