Dorothea Arlene's Story
Dorothea Arlene Chase, 96, lifelong Haverhill resident, passed peacefully at Penacook Place Sunday evening, August 7, 2016, after a brief illness.
Born in Haverhill on June 23, 1920, she was the only child of the late Harold Elmer and Dorothea Marshall (Smith) Chase and was a graduate of Haverhill High School, continuing her education with two years of secretarial school.
Dorothea was a valued secretary working many years for Louis Hamel, who owned a leather business in Haverhill.
Her passions in life included reading, working crossword puzzles, and playing golf, first at the Amesbury Country Club and later at Crystal Springs in Haverhill.
She leaves behind several cousins and two very dear friends, Blanche Johnson and Gerry Ferronetti.
At her request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside service will be held at Walnut Cemetery, East Broadway, Haverhill on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Arrangements are by Paul C. Rogers Family Funeral Home, 334 Main Street, Haverhill.
