David R.'s Story
David R. Whittemore, 87, died on December 19, 2016, in Haverhill. He was the husband of Pauline E. Whittemore of Haverhill.
He was born in Lawrence on September 27, 1929, one of five children of David and Mary Margaret McAlpine Rennie Whittemore. He attended public schools in Lawrence before working at the Arlington and Pacific Mills. He worked at Lucent Technologies, North Andover from which he retired. David served his country in the National Guard.
Upon retirement, David earned an Associate degree from Northern Essex Community College. He taught English to non-English speaking immigrants. He volunteered with local food serving programs for the disadvantaged and those in need. He read world history and geography books. Family genealogy research was a pastime he enjoyed.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his sister, Elinor Whittemore Payne and her children, Vicki Payne Carroll and Michael David Payne, all of Grand Prarie, Texas; brother, Donald R. Whittemore of Windham, NH; nieces, Jacquelyn Declercq of Dracut, MA and Valerie Clark of Nashua, N.H. and nephew, Gerald Smith of Amesbury. He was predeceased by his sister, Carol May Smith and brother, Peter R. Whittemore.
Family, neighbors, friends and acquaintances are invited to attend a Memorial Service to be held on Saturday morning, February 18, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 106 Summer St., Haverhill. Interment will be private in Linwood Mausoleum, Haverhill.
