D. Joan's Story
Dorothy Joan (Joanne) Upson, 85, died November 8, 2017, at Mineral Springs nursing home in North Conway following a brief illness.
She was born in Haverhill, Mass., on July 18, 1932, Daughter of Elsie and Irving Allen. She completed high school in Haverhill before graduating from Lowell General Hospital School of Nursing in 1953. She was married to Walter A. Upson in October of that year.
Her career as a registered nurse spanned over 40 years, starting at the Hale Hospital in Haverhill Massachusetts and then at the Memorial Hospital in North Conway, N.H.
She and Walter enjoyed hiking throughout Northern New England for most of their years together and also took a few hiking trips to Europe and the Canadian Rockies. They were members of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Conway and enjoyed the fellowship found there.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, in 2009 and also lost her son, John, earlier this year. She is survived by her sister, Sandra Allen; sons, Peter and his wife, Valerie, Paul and his wife, Stacey. Also left behind are four grandsons, Jason, Kristopher, Adam and Ryan Upson; along with three great-grandchildren, Madeline, Fay and Ada; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of her life service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Conway.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to either the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Conway or the Chocorua Public library in Chocorua Village.
