OLD ORCHARD BEACH, ME: Beatrice Shirley Weinstein, age 96, passed away on Tuesday February 9, 2016 with her family by her side at her home in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. She was born in Haverhill on May 13, 1919 to Abraham E. and Pauline Bernstein Karelis. Beatrice was married to Julian Joseph Weinstein in 1948.
Beatrice and her husband, Julian operated Weinstein Realty in Haverhill and spent their summers in Old Orchard Beach, where she eventually settled with her five boys. Beatrice attended Simmons College in Boston. She was a strong, independent, and extraordinary woman with a passion for real estate and a keen business sense. Even at the age of 96, she continued to operate her business, Deluxe Oceanfront Cottages, with a following of loyal customers coming back year after year to visit “Bea” and enjoy the beach. Beatrice loved spending time with her family and reminiscing about her past.
Beatrice is survived by four of her children, Eber K. Weinstein and his wife, Luba, Alan S. Weinstein and his wife, Sarah, Neal L. Weinstein, and King H. Weinstein; her grandchildren, Julian J. Weinstein, Paul D. Weinstein and his wife, Nicole, and their mother, Charlene Weinstein; her grandchild, Caleb I.A. Weinstein; and her great-grandson, Benjamin S. Weinstein.
Special thanks to Ethel Wilkins of Haverhill, who had been a close friend and more for 50 years, and to Celeste Bailey. She was predeceased by her husband, Julian Joseph Weinstein and son, Stanley Weinstein.
The family will be sitting Shiva at the family home located at 187 East Grand Avenue, Old Orchard Beach, Maine Wednesday, February 10, until Friday afternoon February 12, and continuing Saturday night February 13, until Tuesday, February 16.
