HAVERHILL: Anna Sampson, 98, passed peacefully in her home on Wednesday, September 9.
She was a lifelong resident of Haverhill and widow of Leslie Sampson, her husband of over 40 years.
Anna loved to golf. She won many championships, most notable the Massachusetts Women’s Amateur in 1963. Along with her son Blaine, she won the Massachusetts Mother and Son 5 times. She also partnered for five Mass Curtis Bowl Titles. Ann won many other tournaments, including several Club Championships at Haverhill Country Club, 24 in all. In 1981, she was greatly honored to have been inducted into the Haverhill Sports Hall of Fame. She continued golfing well into her 80’s at Merrimack Valley Country Club, often with her friend, Joseph Crocco.
She is survived by her son, Blaine; grandson, Derek Sampson, niece, Arlene Forte of Scarborough, Maine, and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill & Bradford.
